What Supplements Should I Be Taking

What supplements should I take?

There are so many supplements on the market these days, It can be hard to know where to begin. But if we ask ourselves a few questions we can get a good idea of what supplements we should be taking or if we could be taking them at all. The main question to ask is what are we trying to achieve?

  • Fat loss
  • Building mass
  • Overall health

Fat Loss

When looking at supplements for fat loss there are really only 2 ways to go. Are you looking to increase the amount of energy you are burning? Or are you looking to reduce the amount you are consuming?

Burning: there are many thermogenic fat burners on the market today and these can be helpful in burning an extra 200-400 calories per day. Most websites will have a section dedicated to thermogenics.

Reducing consumption: there are a few more options when it comes to lowering calories in. There are many products that are designed to reduce appetite. And there are many products that are designed as a meal or dessert replacement.

Building Mass

When looking to build mass there are two main things to consider with supplementation. One calories in, it is absolutely crucial that calorie and protein intake is consistent over the full duration of the bulk. Because of this a mass gainer or a whey blend could be a valuable tool for mass gaining.  Two performances in the gym, when you can perform better you’ll grow better. Supplements such as creatine monohydrate have been shown to boost performance in the gym and therefore will also be a valuable tool for growing mass.

Overall health

At the end of the day your health is really all that matters. With this in mind, the best things you can do for yourself in terms of supplementation is to find yourself a good multivitamin. If you're looking for more than just a multi then consider going to a doctor and asking for a blood test to see if you have any vitamin or mineral deficiencies.
